VAGAMON Photo Essay

The unnaturally smooth and rounded rolling hills around Vagamon tea plantations are a relatively quiet alternative to Munnar, and they provide a wealth of unique experiences in and around the local village.

There are no maps, trails or tourist offices here, but for those with an adventurous spirit it can be incredibly rewarding. Walking out of your guesthouse and picking your next turn one by one isn't exactly high adrenaline adventure, but it does allow you to get lost explore the maze of tea plantations and faint orange dust tracks that weave between them. You may have to climb through some bushes or wade through the odd river, but that's half the fun.

The ever friendly locals are always there to help guide you back to your next chapatti in an emergency, or in our case, take you Christmas carol singing with the local football team. The cooler climate and authentic insight into local life was a treat, and if we were to have had any expectations to begin with, Vagamon would have been nothing like them at all.
